Distretto Taormina Etna

The Taormina Etna District represents the synergic effort made by Public Organisations and Private Companies to promote the social and economic development of the area of reference by making the most of its naturalistic, cultural, wine-gastronomy and general manufacturing components; a new propeller for the development of the area’s tourism and the creation of the foundations for the integration of the other strategic sectors of the local economy.

Various public and private organisations converge into the District: Sviluppo Taormina Etna S.p.A, which, in its capacity as Party Responsible for the Territorial Conventions of the area of reference, has financed public and private investment projects for about 150 million euro, 58 Municipalities between the Provinces of Catania and Messina, the Universities of Catania and Messina, the Regional Provinces of Catania and Messina, the Etna Park Department and the Nebrodi Park Department, the Chamber of Commerce of Catania, 150 companies, associations, banks and private operators of all kinds.

The Taormina Etna District represents an agreement by the whole area which accounts for the majority of tourism in Southern Italy, with one of the greatest natural attractions on the planet, Mount Etna, 3 parks and 4 nature reserves, three lakes, hundreds of museums, churches, castles and forts, 38 km of beaches and a sea which has been awarded the blue flag for clean beaches on several occasions, as well as two ski resorts, one of Sicily’s two golf courses and, first and foremost, the commitment of its people towards the growth of the whole community.
