Distretto Taormina Etna

Travelling around the Taormina Etna district on public transport isn’t always easy due to the fact that much of the area is mountainous.

If you wish to visit the territory by train, besides the State Railways (FS), there is also Circumetnea, a private railway line running for 114 km from Catania, around Etna to Riposto, on the Ionian Coast, offering an infinity of enchanting views of citrus groves, hazel groves, vineyards and solidified lava flows.

The complete trip takes travellers around the volcano and offers them a chance to get off in the district’s various towns or return to Catania in about 4 hours.
A quick and reliable alternative to the train, if you don’t have your own vehicle to get around the area, is represented by the buses, which travel to every town in the district.

Almost everywhere, services are drastically cut on Sundays and, especially in rural areas, timetables are based on the needs of schools and employment.
